Some Personal Reflection as the Year Unfolds

It is the first of my write-ups in the New Year and on that note I bid every potential reader of this piece a great new year. The year is some few days old and as the first month is almost done with, I have had a little challenge as to what to put up on my eco-blog for a starter in the New Year. Finally, I have decided to come out in a more personal way which I believe would inspire more ideas needed for the rest of the year.

The year seems quite young to have enough variables to predict some possibilities and it’s a little too early to assume any level of certainty as regards where we left off on issues that got the most attention in 2016. However, there are certain fixed factors that may fuel some happenings in the New Year, but then, a whole lot of events are unpredictable at least for now.

Now that we have a Trump in the White house and as the whole world await the many unusual possibilities as envisaged and has projected from Mr. Trump’s Personality predispositions and past history. On a more personal reflection, I would say, all hope might not be entirely lost for the many across the globe who do not share in the president’s stand on issues, most of which could be termed as controversial.  A rather collective pressure from the common people could at the end have some positive influence on every decision that will eventually come out of the white house. Also, the fate of the world might not be entirely subjected to the leading of the US in terms of important issues like Climate change and ecological responses; it might just be the right time for a more collective action from the rest of the world in taking the necessary steps regardless of the stand of Mr. Trump’s Cabinet. The collective stand could be the pressure needed to send a strong signal to the US that the rest of world would not wait till all gets worse and that the rest of the world would yet move ahead to save the future.

Over time, I have been involved in many campaigns and eco-advocacy works on issues around climate change, conservation, and sustainable development. These involvements have made it possible for me to have firsthand experiences and to realize the power in little but sustainable action.

Every little effort would eventually make a formidable impact once such effort is sustained.  So, as the New Year unfolds, it would make a whole lot of difference if everyone would take the path of sustainable practices. It does not have to be an immediate one, but a step at a time and after a while, it will all end up becoming a habit and that in turns goes to influencing and motivating someone else.

We all need to act in a way that our lifestyles do not come in the way of a healthy and safe Planet. Think deep before you take an action. Make it an important choice to ditch your private car for a while to hitch a ride on a public bus or a train. If you do not have a tree to replace the one you intend cutting down for a purpose, it would not hurt to wait till you have some new tree seedlings to replant in place of the one you intend cutting down. Also, do not throw everything away, try to reduce your wastes, learn to reuse and imbibe the habit of recycling your old collections. We need more trees, so plant one and encourage other to do the same. Try as much as possible to avoid throwing plastics or other forms of wastes into water bodies,  we have lost so many aquatic life forms as a result of this, so next time it seems convenient to empty your wastes down a water body, think of those creatures that could get killed by your action.

The time is right now to become the change we want to see in the world. If you have an idea, run it by other well-minded colleagues, start little and it will grow just in time with your sustained effort.

The year is so promising and a lot of positive happenings could be made possible if we can all decide to make a positive effort. No action is too small to save some future for the next generation.

God bless you and have a wonderful year!

Sincerely Yours Earthly
