While the previous year was typically a primary year of rooting for global action within a clearly defined blue print, 2016 is just the beginning of the definition of the promises and agreements reached in 2015. Photo credit: www.fcm.org.uk C ongratulations to the world as we have yet again successfully delivered another set of pointers leading to the much envisaged sustainable future, branded as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Although the new set of goals share a basis of similarity in objective with the old Millennium Development Goals(MDGs) in the view of extreme poverty eradication and other interrelated factors that were developed as supporting goals. This time around the goals have increased in number to seventeen but still central to addressing the same root issues as identified in the MDGs. The difference however could be attributed to the explicitness in definition which may have resulted in the broadening for more goals; else than that we might just say we have succeeded in re-dressing an old banner with many colourful scarfs. As the day draws closer, so the expectations are rising from every concerned quarter of the planet. The time is now to build on the schematics that have been drawn all through the year in drafts and popular opinions; the actual moment to set the platform for the most assured common progress of  transitioning from the traditional fossil fuel based economies to the more suitable renewable energy  fuelled future. The climate negotiations will soon be resumed and this time around, it is globally assumed to take off on a different momentum of all seriousness and possibly birth a definitive way forward. This is 2015, a year that speaks so much in volume of global expectations and in a lot of ways deemed as a potential year of monumental turn of event that could open a new page in the history of mankind; his survival and the future. While it seem we are stuck at making meaningful progress in proffering well – possible and available solutions to problems that obviously threatens even lives of many today with a possible shift into an extreme scenario in the nearest future, yet the year lies on the  scale of optimism and pessimism and only time can tell where the balance will tilt towards. It seems a normal human default to set and mark down dates in the future for reaching goals and targets.
