"Energy Saving Day is every day of the year!" Said school-SPARE Central Federal District of Russia”
Some great work from friends in Russia!
Energy
Saving Day -2015 was a big event for schools, families and entire neighborhoods
of the Central Federal District of Russia. This year’s event recorded a great
success with many practical projects, special events and educational programs
that covered more than 200 schools in 7 provinces of the region. It has
exceptionally been an engaging one for students, teachers and parents as
through their efforts and the use of simple and innovative materials like
processing metal and paper many residential and school areas were insulated and
this strategy has helped to save energy
and water resources.
SPARE
program is aimed at encouraging participatory programs that would involve
schools and the families and this has truly paid off as as we now have a lot of
people practicing and adopting different forms of energy conservation and
energy efficiency in their various neighborhoods. So in a way, SPARE program
has been successful at actively engaging citizens of Russia in energy
conservation practices. This process however ensures sustainable development at
large with a lot of emphasis on the well-being of the younger generation, and
consequently providing a means of support for families as the world faces a
growing energy and environmental problems.
The annual energy
saving day has indeed become a new impetus to the expansion of SPARE activities.
The energy saving day for year 2015 came up on the 11th of November
and which saw the participation of students, teachers, parents to being
involved in activities such as the insulation of rooms to help out during the
winter cold, lamp and glass clean out, installation of energy-saving sensors,
awareness on water-saving tips, and provision of tools for automatic closing
doors.
Due to the
rising need for information reach as regards innovative opportunities for
energy and water conservation by many of the new school-SPARE in the Bryansk,
Kaluga, Yaroslavl and Smolensk regions, SPARE has organized trainings, seminar
workshops with the support of Methodists Bryansk, regional NGO
"Viola"(the coordinating organization of the program
"Environmental education" RSEU) and students (former students -
participants of the SPARE program). Additionally, the initiative has helped
families to participate in an online training program tagged “Through the game
to action!". Notably, Online and
desktop games training packages have been developed by the members of the SPARE
community for the past 10 years.
At this
year’s event, more than 200 families formed active groups that created their
own practical innovations for energy conservation and participated in posters
and photos competitions. To provide further learning support, teachers of
foreign languages were available to helps students conduct lessons on energy saving
using the books and materials from the web in English and many of the ideas and contributions of
energy-use monitoring by students helped to assess the performance of the
annual school projects as instituted by the SPARE program.
Finally,
Energy Conservation Day in our region began on November 1 and continues into
December and the innovative and practical steps adopted have interested
students so much that they offered to carry out energy-saving day every day of
the year.
