Peoples' Climate March
Here we go again! It is the
moment when every citizen on Earth is expected to take to the streets and raise
a common banner of solidarity in demand for climate justice-The peoples’
climate march. It has indeed been many years of struggles and seemingly endless
pressure, but that has not just been enough to break the speed of our
continuous fight and there is no stopping to the demand for climate action. It is however saddening that despite the
glaring possibility of losing a whole country like the Marshall Island to
becoming a city in the league of the fabled Atlantis due to the rising sea level
or even the rising figure of climate change fueled conflicts and human
displacements; our leaders are still finding it hard assuming the
responsibility roles as expected of them.
As the finalization of this
year’s climate negotiations would soon kick off in the beautiful city of Paris,
the common people are planning a rather complimentary gathering which am afraid
would go beyond the scope of the leaders’ meeting place in Paris as it would
bring every member of the human community together across the globe under one
big banner of “Action now”. It is the right of the people to make demands of
those that have been chosen to represent their interests, and it is quite justified
for the demands to be met by the figures in authority as anything other than
this template of functionality spells nothing but Injustice. Now the interests
have become aligned at least within the scope of building a common frontier against
climate change and its relative impacts and that means the option of non-conformity
by our leaders is totally out of order and the responsibility of calling them
to order and invariably taking action lies in the hands of the common people.
The power in a united stand
remains a formidable strategy in the view of making demands for change and it
is just the strategy that could help lead the way to a decisive climate action
on the part of our leaders. The people have spoken and the demands are just in
the best interest of everyone, even inclusive of the coming generation. So it is a good fight and a dignified stand
for those that have chosen to stand for the future and with the people.
The peoples’ demands are however
not out of place as they are just in tune with what the planet needs to help
sustain our survival here and the demands are together not entirely expensive
if we would consider the overwhelming cost of inaction and non-yielding. But it
is rather strange that despite all facts and figures of the cost of inaction,
some leaders have become the slack sides of needed bond and thus, resulting in
significant setback at arriving at a decisive way forward.
The world is ready to advance
beyond the dependence on fossil fuel and there isn’t a better time to completely
resolve to adopting renewable energy than now. We are done with polluters and
there is no place for such in the next course of our civilization; the time is
now to close down the mines of coals and the chimneys that darken our skies. We
need to keep the fossil in the ground and look towards utilizing the many
alternatives that surround us; in addition every nation must come to the
realization that no part of the world would be exempted in the moments of
desperation as such as we are obviously tending towards. No matter how rich or
poor, every nation has a significant role to play and a decision to make in favoring the much needed action.
The moment is not to point
accusing fingers or to paint the usual scenario of doom but help intimidate
even the not too ambitious into committing to taking the right action just in
time before we cross the threshold point
of no return.
The stand is not just for the
experts but an all-inclusive one for all citizens of the Earth. Join the
peoples’ Climate march from wherever you are in the world and together we can
all save the future from today.
Sincerely yours Earthly™
