Some Green Lessons from my Mother’s Corn Yard

I took a trip home over the weekend and it was a real home coming for me as the last time I was home had been a while. One very fascinating part of the weekend-out was the amazing thing my mum did; she turned our expansive, always empty yard into a corn farmyard. It was really amazing what she did and I just could not help wondering what took over my mother while we were all away. But really I must Say, I was pretty impressed and left surprised at how so soon a change could come even at the least expected time .

I had to ask her what really made her to take up such a wonderful decision and her responses were very much on the reasonable side; and one thing I have come to know about my mother overtime is for the fact that she loves her food very organic and fresh. This was one reason she made mentioned of and then told me she just thought of a way of utilizing the farming value of the land which had been lying fallow for so long and then find the possible way of ridding her constant employing of  stree-folks around to help  with weeding. It was also a real pastime for her to walk around her farm yard after her return from being a high school principal everyday and so she could always pick her vegetables farm fresh and be very sure they were very organic with no growth enhancer.

Great lessons and insights I actually picked and in a way I decided to post this and share on the values of growing with nature and having a part to play in our respective healthy and sustainable green lifestyle. The beauty of what my mother did isn't just in the green rows that attracts every passerby but for the fact that she could turn around a void space which would have been termed a waste land to a living yard and then for the fact that she thought it wise to control her weed problem via a totally natural means (cultural weed control), also the view of helping the earth and not polluting it with plant growth enhancer and another notable point is the move towards protecting her health with the little she could possibly do by eating what she produced in her yard. One last worthy lesson is that we could all engage in a little gardening exercise which will not only help our health but also help to complementing what avails on our tables.
I had a week long corn party as I never missed a day without a stroll to the yard to do some harvesting and to carry out all sort of cooking styles you could imagine with corns.
