“No one is safe and nowhere is safe enough! ”

“No one is safe and nowhere is safe enough! ”
The latest report coming from the round tables of the IPCC has left quite an impact of fear in the heart of the whole world in the wise of the looming dangers of climate change. Scientists have yet made another round of discovery in the big picture evidences of the changing climate. And now, a reasonable conclusion has been drawn to allow for this statement “Nobody is going to be untouched by the impact of climate change”
Now we know for certain, a nightmare lies ahead and as yet much to the fact that we have always lived in the fear of a major world changing catastrophe, this leads to the much expectation of a world well prepared to live through such an eventful era of change. Alas, the prevailing picture of event would not support such a notion of preparedness, not for certain in any part of the globe.
Looking through the history of man, it’s often a wonder how we tend to be indifferent to situations until such gets to a point of close life threatening. Perharps my premise is biased but really, if you could check through history, how often would you find such analogies as “a certain war would have been prevented if a certain move had been made” or perharps “certain crisis would have been averted if such agreement had been made” one would definitely wonder how with just a little change of thought and words the world would have been saved of the pains of wars, unrests, disasters and the likes.
Then, it’s not much different as mankind is tending towards the old course of history and yet again, we are already portraying a move of failure to curtail a major event which would cost us the very foundation of our survival here on planet Earth.
Climate change is already eating deep into our lives and in a way more pronounced than earlier perceived. Now, the threat is more obvious in the regards of food security and human security all of which would be felt disproportionately among the citizens of the planet. Still a large proportion of the global population wallow in starkly defined poverty and now they will have to share doubly in the burden of pain already being inflicted on them by the impact of climate change. What becomes of their already meager meals under the current threat to food supply by climate change, what happens to the safety of the young ones in search of provision to keep their departing spirit, what happens to the already malnourished children around the vulnerable places in the world? Again what safety is left for the already vulnerable population of women and children who are already heavily impacted by the vices of drought, famine and social problems?
The world, I think is yet to see a desperation of the like that has never yet been witnessed in the history of mankind as the prevailing atmosphere would cause a major world stirring that could spell nothing but a major chaos all over the globe and In a way it means, no one is safe and nowhere is safe.
Even the rich part of the global population would really have no respite and would definitely share in the turmoil of the climate change related disasters and to a large extent, the level of sophistication could even tend to be in the way of safety. So indeed, no one is safe and nowhere is safe.
Even though time seems not to be on our side but yet, we still have sufficient room to make a change and curb our unsustainable lifestyle that is fuelling the warmness of our planet. Even though our indifferent attitude could only point towards the option of adaptation (living to protect ourselves from the impact of climate change), there is still a great deal of allowance to take up the necessary and available stand for mitigation (putting up a stand to curbing the cause of global warming, slamming down on the brake of greenhouse gas generation)
Gradually we are getting to reach beyond the threshold of safety and we are yet to reach a common compromise as to the way forward. The second commitment period of the Kyoto protocol is almost over as yet again the world is preparing to make another treaty come 2015 while history has in its record that we made little or no progress with the former treaty.
Perharps we should set our minds on the optimistic side as the prevailing situation calls for a timely intervention or perharps the whole world should be prepared to for the worst yet to come. The outcome all lies in our hands and this speaks in volume of the future we really want.
